Tania Benitez

Opti & ILCA HP Coach, Mexico Travel Coach

Tania Benitez

We met Tania at WesMex in 2022 on our first PSST international trip. We later hunt her down at her club in Valle de Bravo to do some sailing with the team while in Mexico City. She quickly became the reason we decided to build a strong presence in Mexico and even venture into sailing the Mexican National circuit in 2024. For two years, she traveled days earlier to meet us and train Seb before every circuit regatta before the rest of the team arrived. She has helped us navigate the challenges of IODA, AMVCO, and all other international sailing organizations.

Tania started sailing Optis at an early age reaching national podiums and IODA Championships. She moved on to ILCA at age 14 where she was also a successful international sailor. Tania became the Head Coach at Club Nautico Valle de Bravo in 2008 responsible for Opti, Laser, c420, and Hobie Cat coaching. She continues to coach the Opti and the ILCA fleets.

As a coach, Tanis has consistently placed sailors on the Mexican national team for a decade, including World, European, North American, and South American Championships. She has coached the Mexican National Team at multiple IODA North American and South American Championships. Remarkably, 4 of the 5 IODA World Championship team athletes were Tania and Jesiel’s students.
