Jack Barton

Opti & US Travel Team HP Coach

Jack Barton

We have been sailing with Jack since 2022, when he was still in Los Angeles. Since then, he has moved to San Francisco and established his own program, Best Coast Sailing (BCS), which is our second most active sibling program. BCS sailors come to the Gorge every year for the USODA NW Champs, and we frequently participate in their practices in Richmond and travel to USODA events together. We share a sailing base at Safe Harbor Marina in Richmond, CA. A short sail to Berkley Circle one of the best sailing venues in the world.

Jack started sailing at the age of 6 at the San Francisco Yacht Club (SFYC). He became a very successful sailor in the Optimist, Laser, and J/22 classes. Jack sailed Optis for 8 years, spent 3 years on the national team, and represented the US in several international events. By the time he turned 18, Jack had won the U.S. Triplehanded Championship (Sears Cup) for two consecutive years as a skipper. Jack has been actively coaching since he was 12. He has served as the Head Coach at the SFYC and the Santa Barbara Youth Sailing Foundation (SBYSF), and has coached the US National and Development teams, including the all-girls Team USA 🇺🇸 at Cap d’Adge in France 🇫🇷.

For our sailors, Jack represents the next level of development. He is a master of all the technical aspects of sailing, including boat handling and the details that contribute to boat speed. We turn to Jack to experiment with new setups, sails, and rigging when our sailors seem to get stuck. He played a crucial role in moving Seb from a successful regional sailor to a European Championship and two North American Championships during his Opti career. We travel to all USODA events with Jack and the BCS team.
